Changing perceptions
As we age our perceptions change. I know “Duh!”. Sometimes it’s due to wisdom, sometimes it’s due to physiological changes, sometimes it’s due to context.
My wife and I are near retirement age and live on a small ranch with horses and dogs. Right now is foaling season, and two of our mares have just delivered, so there is a lot of extra work, and the associated aches and pains that come with the combination of work and age. Let’s just say that “pain relief” is in high demand right now at our ranch.
The other day I was driving down to the barn and my wife as just coming out of the house. So I rolled down the window and yelled “Hi beautiful!” She held up her index finger and replied “OK!” and went back into the house. I was a bit startled by her reaction, but before I could continue on my way she comes jogging up to the pickup holding a bottle. She hands it to me, and I look at it and say “What’s this for?” She says “You asked for it.”
I looked at the label and laughed. I said “Hi beautiful!” not “Ibuprofen”.
But I shook a couple out anyway and downed them.
